You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. – Philippians 2:5-11 NLT

Paul uses the best example – Christ the Lord, majestic and beautiful beyond description – to remind us that we ought to be humble in our Christian lives every day. In Philippians, he explains how God exalted Jesus to the highest place; and yes, there is a reward for humility that only God gives, (“…He gives grace to the humble,” 1 Peter 5:5b). But Christ made Himself nothing and took the nature of a servant for us to the glory of God.

As worship leaders, we ought to take up the role of a servant; obedient to death as Christ was. So, be the one who helps the old woman cross the street; give that seat on a bus to the woman with kids; offer a glass of water to the man servant. We lead others in worship when we minister in service of others. Be the servant of the rest and God will surely exalt you.
