I wrote this for our #NLWI staff but thought others in ministry might also benefit from reading it…

It’s easy to grow discouraged in ministry, especially when a potential opportunity we’ve been working on seems to evaporate overnight or when seeds we’ve planted into people don’t grow as we hoped they would. Like a staff member recently said to me, sometimes crows will try to steal our crop.

What we must guard against is allowing the devil to steal our personal joy and childlike trust in the Lord. We must protect our time alone with God and the wonder of simply abiding in His presence. We must also guard our families and our relationship and time with them.

On a practical level, we must keep pressing on, doing whatever we can through His power to keep tilling soil and planting seeds week after week. And we must keep leading and inspiring our whole team to do the same.

We cannot lose hope in the Lord of the Harvest! He who called us is faithful. To quote an old Imperials song, “He didn’t teach us to swim to let us drown. He didn’t bring us this far to let us down.”

Let’s keep praying—asking, seeking and knocking! “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up” (Galatians‬ ‭6:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬).

A great way to encourage ourselves in the Lord is to count our blessings and start thanking God for his many amazing attributes. Please share with us one of your blessings or an awesome attribute of the Lord that you’re thankful for.
